Today is a sad day for CVC. Due to social distancing restrictions, we are cancelling our sojourn for the first time in it’s 20 year history. Although this is a difficult time for many, we are looking forward to a bright future and continue our mission to serve the Kiski-Conemaugh River Valley. Below is a letter from our Sojourn Committee. Please read it for more information about the event cancellation and reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing at you at next year’s sojourn.

Begin letter:

Dear Friends:

With great sadness, the Conemaugh Valley Conservancy has decided to cancel the Stony-Kiski-Conemaugh Rivers Sojourn scheduled for June 4-7, 2020.  We have all become used to these kinds of announcements as a result of COVID-19, but rest assured we did not come to this decision lightly.

Our primary concern, as always, is the safety of our paddlers.  We simply cannot assume that it will be advisable to gather together in early June.  Even if it ends up being ok, it takes months to pull everything together to execute the event.   We have decided to cancel, not postpone, because we cannot count on water levels being adequate for 4 days of paddling later on in the year.  We also don’t know if there will be a second wave of infection, or when.

Participants and sponsors who had already committed to the 2020 event will be offered the options of putting their commitment toward a 2021 event, being reimbursed, or putting their contribution toward other valuable CVC programs and activities.

Many thanks to the 2020 sponsors who help make this event possible: InFirst Bank; The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies; Gibson-Thomas Engineering; AmeriServ; Spangler Subaru; Western Pennsylvania Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic; Indiana County Tourist Bureau; Laurel Valley Chiropractic Clinic; Leonard S. Fiore, Inc.; Berkebile Chiropractic.

Visit CVC’s website and follow us on Facebook to learn more about everything CVC does to promote conservation and recreation in the Kiski-Conemaugh River Basin.

On behalf of the Sojourn Committee, we want you to know we will miss seeing old friends and meeting new ones.  Please mark your calendars now for the 2021 Stony-Kiski-Conemaugh Rivers Sojourn, June 3-6.  We WILL see you then!

Sincerely,

Mike Burk

Sojourn Committee Chair
